Gilpher: A World with no Limits

Clara gasped and froze for a moment when she felt very small, but sharp, prickling on her shoulder. She slowly turned her head and saw a bird sitting on her. "One of your friends Selene?" she asked, smiling as the bird sang a note. "Hello there. You're very pretty." she said, looking at the bird. "i've never seen one like this around here before. Where does she come from Selene?" Clara asked, mildly confused.

"Yes, that is Miki. She's Liliana's blue bird of paradise, but I think she's relatively new," explained Selene.

Thank you, Clara, said Miki. Don't tell them I can mind-speak, please. I'd rather just pretend that I'm 'normal' for now.

Jask? Just a little?
You and I both ate this morning, Fao, and you know that. And to add on, I don't think Doran there would be too happy. Jask replied, shaking his head lightly toward Clara, "No thanks. We ate this morning and Silver here is an herbavior." He half-smiled and rolled his shoulder lightly.

Selene yawned as the darkness closed in. The warmth from the fire was making her sleepy, but she fought the urge to close her eyes and sleep. She might be needed at any moment.

Back at the village, Illuaen paced restlessly in the old, rather decrepit, barn that the Elders had given her to live in with the wolves. They had promised that they would have somebody help fix it up and make it stronger, but what with Kisara and Clara missing with a possible hostile elf and a Shadowmage trio, they were, obviously, on edge. Liliana had returned to find Selene still missing, and the pack had sung with sadness that their Alpha Female could not be with them to enjoy the kill. Miki was also missing, and Liliana knew better than to be worried that she'd gotten herself eaten. Like as not Miki was probably with Clara, Selene, and Kisara.

The unicorn, the wolves, and the human girl fell into deep slumbers in their respective homes; Illuaen the best of the stalls in the barn, the wolves in a cave under the roots of a huge, but dead, tree, and Liliana in her home.

Alein felt his eyeluids getting heavy and decided it might as well be best to show himself. He knew that probably the wolf had recognized him, be it the smell or any rustling sounds the plants may have done when brushing him. He moved out and circled a little and appeared with the rest, saying "Hello" and laying down at his now usual spot close to the river.

Selene nodded at Alein, and watched the ice dragon go to sit by the river. She pulled a few sparks to her and made patterns on the dirt, burning dark marks into the ground. When she finished, it was a likeness of Doran and Clara, with Kisara in the background.

Kisara smiled at Alein. "Welcome back, I hope you were succesful in...whatever you were doing." she said, pausing when she realised she didn't actually know what Alein had been up to. She turned her attention back to Selene who was now drawing with sparks. How odd. she thought to herself, but the finished picture did look good. "My head's too small." she said in mock hurt, before smiling. "It's a lovely picture." she added softly.

Doran's eyes absently wondered to the beautiful bird. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen, so rare and exotic. "You'd better be careful with that bird. A lot of people would try to capture it for it's beauty." he said randomly, still admiring the plumage before turning back to the last of his meat and gobbling it down.

"Managed to catch two deer. Left one at a colder corner of my cave and ate the other. Hadn't managed to get anything for lunch, so I was quite hungry." Alein said as he also wondered at the strange bird.

Selene laughed. "I'm sorry, Kisara." She fixed the image. Tilting her head to one side, she blew on the sparks, and they became a moving picture, the drawing showing each of them doing something.

"Thank you," said Miki, before realizing what she had just said. Oops, she added silently to Selene.

((Sorry for double post, but there is a high chance this will be my last post for a while.))

Alein came fully awake at the sound of the bird's voice, barely noticing it was the bird before he looked around like a... well, an idiot. He then eyed the bird susiciously. He got up and walked to it, nearly slipping in the ice he formed when he got surprised. "So... I knew there was something weird about you." he said to the bird, setting his tail and tensing his leg muscles to catch it if it tried to fly away. He wouldn't let it out without an explanation.

Miki chirped in protest. Why's he cornering me?!

Because you spoke, explained Selene.

Oh. Should we explain?

Selene answered by explaining to Alein. "Miki's Liliana's bird of paradise. She's a mage-bird; she can do magic, and talk. She's not going to hurt anybody. She's not powerful."

Alein untensed his muscles, and gave one step back, before asking "Okay, but who's Liliana?" He then looked at the bird again and asked "And what magic can she do? Not Liliana, thought knowing that would be good too, but Miki."

Selene threw back her head and showed her teeth in a silent wolf laugh. "Liliana is a human light-mage from Clara and Kisara's hometown, now mine too. Miki's like her mistress; she's a light-mage, although a weak one."

Hey! Miki protested.

"So then... why are you all staying here for the night, and not going back to the village? I thought humans kept to their villages during the night unless hunting or going very far. And with Kisara I don't believe that going too far would be a problem." Alein questioned, marking the last sentence by indicating Kisara with his head. "Also, what's with the human and the wolf over there? They seem to have just fallen asleep."
